A Look at the Jaguar XJ’s Evolution

It may be hard to believe, but there was once a time when German sedans were not the epitome of opulent luxury. Sure, they were stately and refined, but also dreadfully austere, even when dressed in the finest trimmings.

For several decades, in fact, Jaguar sedans were the world standard for grace and elegance, fitted with supple leathers, rich woods and plush wool carpets. And they were just as gorgeous on the outside, wearing their lithe, low silhouettes.

This film, now a couple years old but as relevant as ever, shows the 50-year evolution of the mighty XJ sedan, starting in 1968. To our eyes, the ones at the beginning of the video are the most charming – especially that deep grille on the Series I – but see for yourself.
