This gorgeous 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster goes up for sale later this week at Mecum’s Kissimmee, Florida, auction. It’s undeniably a standout in a sale that features a slate of interesting, if somewhat ordinary vehicles by comparison to this icon. Other notables, however, include a Vignale-bodied Ferrari 340 America, a Shelby Cobra 289, and indeed a 300 SL Gullwing coupe.
Reported to be a full nut-and-bolt restoration by California-based specialist Hjeltness Restoration. Already an award-winner, the silver-over-red two-seater bears a Mercedes-Benz Classic certification.
From the pictures, it looks to be a solid investment-grade Mercedes that can still be enjoyed on the occasional drive. For the $1.1M to $1.3M it’s expected to draw, we might be inclined to put more period-correct rubber under it than the modern Michelin Harmony touring tires it’s wearing, but we can afford to be picky.
