This ’80s 911 is the Perfect Blend of Retro and Modern

The spectrum of resto-mod options for an aircooled Porsche runs wide. From Outlaw 356s to rough-and-tumble Safari 911s to immaculately detailed Singers, the possibilities are as deep as your wallet. Perhaps deeper.

This 1983 911 coupe from Florida restoration specialist Straat splits the difference between the super high-end custom builds and your bog-standard restoration. The result is a clean, classic design that can be driven daily in comfort and style.

Exterior styling is cleaned up with an eye toward minimalism. No wide fenders, no whale tail spoilers – just the simple joy of the pure 911 form finished in light grey paint. Only the modern black-out LED headlamps deviate from Stuttgart’s original design.

Fuchs alloys wear 17″ Michelin Pilot Sport rubber, filling the fenders appropriately while allowing space for 930-spec brakes. A coilover suspension provides the appropriately aggressive stance.

Power comes from a 3.0-liter six running PMO fuel injection and Haltech engine management. The engine breathes through a custom stainless exhaust and is paired to a 5-speed 915 gearbox.

The real magic is on the inside, where the cockpit has been treated to a 356-style overhaul. Vintage-type sport seats are trimmed in supple light green leather with only a hint of detailing in the pattern work. Old-school German square-weave carpet finishes not only the floor, but also the door panels and seat backs.

Peaking through the MOMO Prototipo steering wheel are classic-style gauges with pale green markings that complement the leather trim. A modern 6-speaker sound system is powered by a genuine Porsche Classic head unit with navigation.

The workmanship looks as stunning as the design concept. You can watch the video below to see the process from donor to delivery
